Director of Risk Management

Supervisor:      Senior Vice-President of Human Resources                                                                                                       

 

BASIC FUNCTION

Directs, manages and administers the organization’s risk management program, including but not limited to:  risk identification and evaluation, claims management, worker’s compensation, safety program, crisis management.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Develops and implements the risk management program in a manner that fulfills the mission and strategic goals of the organization.  Complies with organizational policies, state and federal laws and all external regulations related to safety and risk management.

 

  1. Develops and implements systems, policies and procedures for the identification, collection and analysis or risk related information.

 

  1. Leads, facilitates and advises senior management and/or designees in designing risk management programs within their divisions.

 

  1. Administers the safety program, including workers compensation, return-to-work programs and safety training.  Collects, maintains, and analyses data concerning injuries, claims, worker’s compensation and other risk related data.

 

  1. Administers the overall insurance program for the agency.  Coordinates premiums, terms and conditions of all property, casualty and liability insurance.  Coordinates claims activity, reporting, disposition, analysis, litigation, and settlement activities.  Evaluates coverage through identification of exposure and assesses liability through evaluation of claim statistics and trends.

 

  1. Collects, monitors and reports all general liability claims and works with insurer to assure timely filing and resolution of claims.

 

  1. Actively participates in or facilitates committees related to risk management and safety.

 

  1. Assumes a leadership role in reducing employee injuries and properly loss.

 

  1. Conducts safety inspections in conjunction with safety committees, Director of Safety, and outside agencies to identify potential hazards and prevent injuries to employees, clients, general public and damage to property.  Coordinates and implements corrective action.

 

  1. Investigates and analyzes root causes, patterns and trends that could result in compensatory events.  Assists in identifying and implementing corrective measures.

 

  1. Serves on the crises management team and is a point person with crises such as: floods, fires, major injuries/accidents, etc.

 

  1. Provides quarterly reports on all claims, injuries, and claim payments.  Provides additional reports as required.

 

  1. Provides education and training to all levels of employees in the areas of risk management and safety.

 

  1. Performs all job duties in a safe manner and adheres to all safety guidelines

 

  1. Reports progress, problems and concerns to Senior VP of Human Resources on a regular basis.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in risk management or related field

Three years of proven experience in safety management and worker’s compensation.

ARM designation preferred

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Excellent analytical skills

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

Ability to travel extensively (local, regional)  Some national travel as required

Ability to remain calm and logically think through crisis.
